The work of Käthe Kollwitz is appreciated, studied and exhibited all over the world. Yet there is only one place in the world which survived war and destruction and is capable of conveying an authentic sense of the artist’s personality today: her last home in Moritzburg.
The house has been arranged as a museum since 1995, and its small collection of thirty original works on paper gives an overview of Käthe Kollwitz’s more than fifty years of artistic creativity. Photographs, excerpts from diaries and letters as well as an audio station offer insight into very personal aspects of the artist’s life. The tour ends with the two rooms in which Käthe Kollwitz lived from July 1944 until her death on 22 April 1945.
The permanent exhibition on the life and work of Käthe Kollwitz is complemented by special exhibitions devoted to various themes.
